Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Didascein (Journal of English Education) is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original research articles, review articles, and conceptual papers in English language education and related fields that have neither been published elsewhere in any language nor are under review for publication anywhere. This statement clarifies the ethical behavior expected of all parties involved in publishing an article in this journal: authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. It is based on the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards: Authors should present an accurate account of the original research performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Researchers should present their results honestly and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation. A manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. Manuscripts should follow the journal's Author Guidelines.
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original work. Relevant previous work and publications, both by other researchers and the authors' own, should be properly acknowledged and referenced, and the primary literature should be cited where possible. Original wording taken directly from publications by other researchers should appear in quotation marks with the appropriate citations. Manuscripts must comply with the journal's Plagiarism Policy.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publications: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently, nor publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal. Such practices constitute unethical publishing behavior and are unacceptable. Multiple publications arising from a single research project should be clearly identified as such, and the primary publication should be referenced.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Authors should acknowledge all sources of data used in the research and cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. Proper acknowledgement of the work of others must always be given.
Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should accurately reflect individuals' contributions to the work and its reporting, and should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study, as described in the journal's Authorship Criteria. Those who made less substantial or purely technical contributions should be listed in the Acknowledgements section. The corresponding author ensures that all co-authors have seen and approved the submitted version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission.
Use of AI Tools: AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Any use of AI beyond basic language editing must be disclosed in an AI Use Statement, as described in the journal's AI Policy.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors should clearly disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.
Research Ethics and Human Participants: Research involving human participants, such as students, teachers, or other respondents, must be conducted ethically. Authors should obtain informed consent from participants, protect their privacy and anonymity, and obtain ethical approval where required by their institution.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their submitted or published manuscript, they should promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate with the editor to correct or retract the paper, in line with the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy.
Duties of Editors
Publication Decisions: Based on the reviewers' reports, the editor may accept, decline, or request revisions to a manuscript. Such decisions must always be driven by the validity of the work and its importance to researchers and readers. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism, and may confer with other editors or reviewers in making decisions. Editors take responsibility for everything they publish and maintain the integrity of the published record.
Review of Manuscripts: The editor ensures that each manuscript is initially evaluated for its suitability and originality, and then organizes a fair and timely double-blind peer review, selecting reviewers with sufficient expertise and avoiding those with conflicts of interest.
Fair Play: The editor ensures that each manuscript is evaluated for its intellectual content without regard to the authors' sex, gender, race, religion, citizenship, institution, or political views. Editors uphold the principle of editorial independence and integrity so that decisions are fair and unbiased.
Confidentiality: The editor ensures that information regarding submitted manuscripts is kept confidential and is not disclosed to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and editorial team as appropriate. Editors protect the privacy of research participants and do not upload manuscripts to AI tools.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Editors will not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the written consent of the author, and will not be involved in decisions about manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest, as described in the journal's Conflict of Interest policy.
Handling Misconduct: Editors respond to allegations of research or publication misconduct following COPE guidance, as described in the journal's Allegations of Research Misconduct policy.
Duties of Reviewers
Confidentiality: Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor, and must not be uploaded to AI tools.
Acknowledgement of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. Reviewers should notify the editor if they notice substantial similarity between the manuscript and another published or submitted work, have concerns about the ethical aspects of the work, or suspect misconduct, but should not investigate further unless the journal asks for further information.
Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, and reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Reviewers should follow the journal's review guidelines and provide constructive feedback that helps the authors improve their manuscript, making clear which suggestions are essential and which would only strengthen or extend the work.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions connected to the papers. In the double-blind review, if reviewers suspect the identity of the author(s), they should notify the editor if this raises any potential conflict of interest.
Promptness: Reviewers should agree to review a manuscript only if they are confident they can complete the review within the agreed time frame. If a reviewer cannot complete the review on time, they should inform the editor promptly so that the manuscript can be sent to another reviewer.
Duties of the Publisher
The English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Tridinanti, as the publisher, ensures the editorial independence of the journal, supports the long-term preservation of its content, and works with the editors to address ethical concerns and to publish corrections or retractions when needed.
