Plagiarism Policy

Didascein (Journal of English Education) does not tolerate plagiarism in any form. All manuscripts must be original and must properly cite all sources used.

Similarity Threshold

The overall similarity index of a manuscript must not exceed 25%, excluding the reference list and properly quoted material. Manuscripts that exceed this threshold will not proceed to publication.

Forms of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • copying text, data, or ideas from another source without proper citation;
  • paraphrasing another author's work too closely without acknowledgement;
  • self-plagiarism, i.e., reusing substantial parts of the author's own published work without citation;
  • duplicate or redundant publication of the same study in more than one journal;
  • submitting AI-generated text as the author's own work without disclosure.

Similarity Check Procedure

Effective from Volume 8 Number 1 (March 2027):

  1. At submission — authors must confirm in the submission checklist that they have checked their manuscript with a recognized similarity checker (e.g., Turnitin, iThenticate, or an equivalent tool) and that its similarity index does not exceed 25%.
  2. During review — the editor and reviewers examine the manuscript for evidence of plagiarism. Manuscripts with substantial unattributed overlap are returned to the author or rejected.
  3. Before copyediting — authors of accepted manuscripts must upload a similarity report of the final revised manuscript as proof. The editor reviews the report, checks that it corresponds to the manuscript, and examines matched sources where necessary. The manuscript proceeds to copyediting only if the similarity index is within 25%.

Actions Taken

Stage Finding Action
Screening or review Substantial unattributed overlap Manuscript returned to the author for revision, or rejected
Before copyediting No similarity report, or similarity above 25% Manuscript returned to the author; publication postponed until resolved
After publication Plagiarism confirmed Article retracted in line with the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy

Serious or repeated cases may result in the author being barred from submitting to the journal for a period determined by the editorial board, and in notification of the author's institution. All cases are handled in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
